Regrettably, all these three words are used synonymously.😪

Modernization and westernization are expected to result in liberalization of individuals as well as society. But, just changing the outer appearance will not result in liberalization or modernization of women.

If people’s attitudes don’t change what is the whole point in changing the outfit?

No one should ever judge a book by its cover!

I have heard the most progressive thoughts from the most conventional people and the most conventional thoughts from people who appear to be modern!

I think movie directors of 1980s are responsible for all this….

This taboo was introduced by the directors in 1980s and followed by all the soap opera directors of present- all traditional, good women wear sarees, plait their hair and wait for their prince charming to come over and protect them. But, the villainesses come in “modern” dresses, thus bringing in a thought that all women who wear western or modern outfits are bad!!!!

Who was Ovvaiyar?

She was a very pious poet and a great traveller. But, what was her statement on man-woman relationship?

“No one is a slave to the other. Man and woman are equal”

Just because of her outer appearance, can we brand her as a chauvinist? NO!

In my opinion, wearing exposing clothes, free hair and taking up all bad habits like smoking and drinking does not make a woman progressive! Following the culture and traditions of the west will not make one a better person!

The real progress comes from inside… when as an outsider, you are able to look at a woman progressing without any prejudice or able to appreciate her for her talent- regardless of what sex you are

SO, the next time you come across a person who is clad in traditional dress, please…..
