Fooood😍! and identity!

Great day everyone!

Today has been a wonderful week for me and I hope you all had it too😍!

As I said last week, I am going to talk about the conference on culinary narratives which I attended earlier this month!

There were various eminent personalities, both inside and outside India and they all spoke about food😍!

There were two orators from Australia and the topic on which they spoke has set the wheels in motion for this week’s blog!

Both of them felt that the invasion of the Europeans had left a wider impact on their continent, especially their food. They said the invasion left the people thinking that there was nothing to be proud of in the culture and heritage of Australia. Moreover, the invasion had robbed them of their traditional recipes.

This made me think, what was the effect of invasion on our nation?

We too don’t feel very proud of our heritage. We too don’t think that there is anything to be proud of in our country especially food. This thought was instilled in us by the invasion.

All the so-called “white” foods like sugar and maida, the reason behind all the illnesses in our country was brought by this invasion! Our ancestors lived up to a century without medical facilities we have today, but the life span is decreasing in our generations as we have moved away from our traditional food.

The identity of a man is inevitably tied to his food habits. That too, we Indians have a great food heritage. But , now the youngsters don’t seem acknowledge this fact.

Of course now awareness regarding all kinds of millet are coming up which is the result of the recent flare ups in social media.

Our country now stands first in diabetes and other such diseases. Why? Because we left from our heritage and started indulging in the cuisine culture of other countries.

Not like I am asking you all to eat “only” Indian foods…I am just asking you to be really proud of them. Many people I know felt Idly was idle for breakfast only after a foreign organisation explained its ingredients and its positive effect on the people eating it!

So, let us start realizing the value of not only our food but also the different aspects of our culture!

Hope you all have an eye opening week regarding food habits!
